During this season of the men’s and women’s tennis league, a lot has come down, from new champions to old ones gaining their titles back. The scores at the end were a pretty close matchup, and here are the results of this terrific tennis league!
From the men’s league, the last match was between two individuals: Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner. Sinner had been having a challenging hard-court win streak and was well determined not to break it. Meanwhile, Alcaraz was determined to get his fifth and sixth major titles. Alcaraz was fighting for Spain, while Sinner was fighting for Italy. The score had started at 6-2 in the first round, leaving Alcaraz to get an early lead. In round two, 3-6, Sinner had won this round. In round three, Alcaraz dominated the match and got 6-1 against Sinner. Finally, on Sinner’s last chance at redemption, he was outclassed at 6-4, breaking his streak and leading to Alcaraz winning the championship!
Continuing, we now have the women’s singles. The match was between Aryna Sabalenka and Amanda Anisimova. Sabalenka had already won this championship before and was determined to defend it against Anisimova. Throughout this match, a surprising tie-breaker had to be done, since the two matches were tied at 6-3 and 7-6. This ended with, despite all of Anisimova’s efforts, Sabalenka winning again and successfully defending her title. Yet this wasn’t the only achievement Sabalenka had; she also achieved a rare back-to-back US Open victory, which made her the first woman to do so since Serena Williams won three in a row in 2014.
For our last matches, we have the doubles women’s and men’s leagues. In the men’s doubles, the winners were Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos. While in the women’s, the winners were Gabriela Dabrowski and Erin Routliffe, who had successfully gained their titles back.
This year’s league was incredibly close in many matches, and everyone had truly given it their all. With the media’s many new articles about these shocking wins, it sets up an opening for new challengers to attempt to gain the championship. So, look forward to next year’s US Open recap!
