Tyra-Pauline Dunnaway is the new culinary teacher here at JMS. In this role, she is responsible for teaching the art of preparing, cooking, and presenting food. Ms. Dunnaway was inspired to become a culinary teacher by her brother, who enjoyed cooking for himself. She attended Bethune-Cookman University to study business administration and earned her degree in Culinary Arts. She is both a private chef and a culinary arts teacher here at JMS. It definitely sounds like a lot of hard work to work both jobs! She has been here for a little over a month, and during that time, she and her class have cooked six times. Ms. Dunnaway says that the biggest struggle yet is getting her classes to settle down when food is being served, but she absolutely loves the eagerness of her students when learning about new cultures and cuisines. She plans on teaching here again next year and says that this school has broadened her horizons to the wonderful world of academia. The students love her as a teacher. Her class is very productive and always active. They constantly engage in activities like searching for kitchen supplies or cooking. Ms. Dunnaway replaced JMS’s old chef, Chef Destito-Stutt. JMS is lucky to have a culinary teacher like Ms. Dunnaway!
