2026 is here! Time for new beginnings, new years resolutions (even though we don’t finish them!) and a new semester at JMS.  January is named after the Roman god Janus, who is the two-faced god of beginnings which fits the start of the year. Fun fact, January and February were added later in the Roman calendar, the Roman year started in March. January is also National Hobby Month and National Blood Donor Month! It’s a good time to start new hobbies at the beginning of the year.

For us 8th graders, January shows that we are halfway through our last year of middle school. Everyone told me that Middle School would go by fast, but I didn’t believe them. JMS will be starting 2026 strong athletically with the start of boys and girls basketball, girls soccer as well as boys and girls intramural track.

This month’s edition of the Mariner Messenger features an article on history’s greatest mysteries, an article that spotlights heroes in the Holocaust as well as an article about conspiracy theories at JMS.  Bringing us back to our childhood is an article about nostalgic childhood shows.  We also have a feature on the Jupiter Lighthouse! Did you know that it is the oldest structure in Palm Beach County?

I’m very glad that everyone made it through midterms, state testing, finals, and projects. Got to love the end of the quarter! I’m very excited to see how everyone manages till Spring Break! I think we all are going to do great!

-Avery Bennett, Editor In Chief of the Mariner Messenger

P.S.- The worst day of the year or “Blue Monday” is the third Monday in January. If you make it through that day, you’re doing great!
